what is the difference between Win+D and Win+M

Win+D shows desktop and Win+D again restore all open windows

Win+M minimizes all windows which in effect shows the desktop, and Win+shift+M restores all minimized windows.

In effect they are exact the same thing?

Not exactly ... , Win+M Minimizes windows, but shows some applications like Dock, Win+D hides the dock, too !
