Windows "Scan and Fix Dialog Box" and ".CHK Files"

    Hey Friends,

I guess its not only me having this, is it? Many of us have it right? so whats the thing which brings up this dialog box > Scan and Fix /or/ Continue without scanning > when you connect an external device to your computer?
i had some time some bad day of mine when i clicked on the Scan and Fix and the result was the windows converted a very large number of my files into .CHK files hidden in the HDD!! and i still cannot find a way to recover those most most important files of mine (they are text files). I did recover a large bundle of files, but not the ones i actually needed more than anything! those text files. i have gone through literally 30,000 files and recovered almost everything > videos, movies, images, and messed up bits of large installation files of softwares like AE broken down to many many small pieces... but that doesnt matter! that stuff can be recovered (softwares and movies and songs) but the text files are still among those .CHK files i have which are still more than 10,000.

Anyone have anything regarding this is more than Welcome to share their Knowledge.:)
    Thanks.

Sounds like checkdisk is running and finding a problem with a hard drive and attempting a repair

Friend, i dont really think that is something even near a repair! that is what i think a mess, it literally took all the files from my HDD and converted them to .CHK files hidden in the HDD and as a result it showed it had finished with errors...
when i checked to the given location all those folders and files were only icons of 32KB and nothing more!!!
