Upgrading HP Laptop to Windows 7

If I want to upgrade my HP laptop to Win7, is there a way to get the software that came with the laptop orginally? I went to the HP website and went to the software and drivers section for my laptop but didn't see anything other than drivers and hardware specific software...

You could upgrade it directly to windows 7, from Windows Vista. That'd mean anything you currently have installed/saved would be added to the Windows 7 install (basically just pop the DVD in while running vista, do an upgrade, wait, and it'll be easy).

Yeah but you cannot upgrade to a dual-boot. This Original Poster wants to keep his HP Software (HP Webcam, HP TV, HP etc.. I have an HP laptop). This would tie the Original Poster over until HP gets Windows 7 versions out, my laptop so far only has a windows 7 version of 'HP TV Software'.

Easiest thing to do is to keep your driver and software CD.
You should have gotten one when you bought it, and could probably get another from them if you need to.

Now another option, though much more difficult, is to do a clean install over your Vista installation, then restore from the Windows.old folder. I created the tutorial here:

New HP Laptops do not come with any driver/software DVD's. I mean you can get recovery discs from HP that has a Software/Driver installation CD but it only works during the recovery process.

HP has already stated to me numerous times the only way to keep ALL the software is via Upgrade (this was not the same guy that threatend to void my warranty for installing the RTM version of Windows 7).

HP is odd, sadly customers have to deal with it or switch manufactures.

Thats stupid. I would gladly tell them that too.

My laptop came with a blank HDD and driver cds, which turned out not to play properly in my computer.... But I can still access it.

Though my mike still does not work..... *damnit*

Ok, about the upgrading... If I'm upgrading from Vista Home Premium x64 to 7 Ultimate x64, can that be done as an "upgrade"?

Essentially I'd like to do a clean install and still be able to re-install the HP software...

P.S. - Is it me or does HP not provide their own power management app... I know its no big deal but I was used to seeing them on laptops...

Alright, well I guess I've made up my mind. I found a download site for HP Advisor (downloads and updates all HP software) and hope everything will come easy from there. I will do a clean install of 7 Ultimate x64 when I get the chance.

In case anything happens HP provides a recovery partition to return to factory settings which I can make DVD's of and save off site.

Thanks for your help guys. Wish me luck
