Booting Win 7 from USB flash drive ?

In order to be able to Boot from a flash drive , I understand this ability must be enabled in ones system .

I have a desktop and a new laptop in neither of which do I see this choice .

I presume this is a choice originally installed on the m/b and it would not , therefore , be possible to use software to enable it ?

Is that a correct assumption ?

If the flash drive itself was bootable, then all you would have to do is set the BIOS to boot from it, or select it from a boot menu, as some systems have by hitting F12, etc.

That being said, you can boot Windows 7's installer from a flash drive, but you can't boot a working, installed version of Windows 7 from a USB device.
