    Internet Shortcut Icons Quit Working

I have windows 7 loaded on an ASUS PC notebook. The problem I am having and need some additional help on is that all of a sudden my desktop internet shortcuts quit responding. Instead, I received a message that reads "there was a problem sending the command to the program". I have tried doing a system restore with no luck. I've also tried opening the two internet browsers and cannot get either one to execute anywhere on the system. Would appreciate if someone who knows what I should do to get this resolved could reply to this post.

    Thanks For Your Help

Have you tried deleting the Internet shortcut on the Desktop that has quit working and creating another shortcut instead? Normally the newly created shortcut works.

Read at Internet Website Shortcut - Create to create a new shortcut.

Go to: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and start the IE .exe from there. It looks like in the picture.

Nothing has worked thus far. Checked out everything, I could with D7 and ran some malware and virus tests which came back negative. Looks like, I may have to find some way to re-install the operating system. If anyone has any ideas, would appreciate.

    Thanks

If you want to reinstall, you can do that from the recovery partition if your system is an OEM - else use the installation disc.

If you search your registry for Isshortcut, where do you find it?

Haven't searched the registry for that yet, but will check it out and find out where its at. Will give you a report on it later today. Thanks for the tip.

just finished fixing my own; i searched my own registry for IsShortcut. It appears 16 times in my own registry. i think if we can match them up, your problem might be solved. you're running utimate 32, and i'm premium 64, but i think these should match.

H_C_R / ApplicationReference = Reg_SZ with no value attached. from here on out, simply insert IsShortcut with no value, just Reg_SZ, except for the 2 with a value of "Yes"

    /IEAssocFile.URL
    /IEAssocFile..WEBSITE
    /InternetShortcut
    /lnkfile
    /Microsoft.Website
    /piffile
/WSHFile = Reg_SZ value "Yes" should be entered

    H_L_M/Software/Classes/IsShortcut
    /IE.AssocFile.URL REG_SZ
    /IE.AssocFile.WEBSITE Reg_SZ
    /InternetShortcut Reg_SZ
    /lnkfile Reg_SZ
    /Microsoft.Website Reg_SZ
    /piffile Reg_SZ
    /WSHFILE Reg_SZ = "Yes"

Let me know if this helps,
