    Major bug in windows 7

    In Windows 7 is this 256-color palette corrpution bug which is caused by EXPLORER.EXE program. In this bug colors are transformed in some strange psychedelia experiment. Does this bug have been reported to Microsoft or not because this is really annoying problem?

    Somebody have fixed this by killing EXPLORER.EXE with command line utility.

    In windows 7 and steel panthers they use code like this:

    @echo off
    @echo ================================================
    @echo NCrawler's SPWAW Windows 7 color fix
    @echo ================================================
    @echo This fix closes explorer.exe, waits until it is closed and then launches SPWAW
    @echo off

    taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
    mech.exe
    Start explorer.exe

    There is a problem in this code. When I use Taskmanager I see that MECH.EXE process is still running.

    Another question:
    Where is RUN button in windows 7 like in Windows XP?

    MECH.EXE is steel panthers program to run it. This info is irrelevant because colors corrupt in many games.'

    Color corruption usually comes in old games. Like: C&C red alert, Steel Panters World at war, Tommi mäkinen rally championships.

    Another info:
    This thread can only be marked as SOLVED after this color corruption bug is patched away somehow.

    Friend, I've run many times C&C Red Alert without the color corruption bug and I've never heard about it.
    The Run button in start menu can be added right-clicking the orb, selecting Properties and then customizing the start menu.

    This thread will be marked as solved by forum admins and this has nothing to do with a patch released by Microsoft.
    I don't know if someone here has reported such bug to Microsoft. Can you report it?

    I have had this problem many times. With older games like Warcraft II, Worms Armageddon etc.. I solved by closing explorer, I see no need for any other fix (mech.exe). Hope this helps :)

    When you have problems like this always ask yourself: Have I tweaked my system beyond normal system settings? Problems like this can also arise from using XP- and early-Vista-era Optimizer or Tweaking Suites.

    You should also not be running the bloated Win7 factory preinstall but have a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to get best performance. At the minimum Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

    These may not pertain to this alleged bug, but are Best Practices based on what we've seen here since before Win7 release.

    I'm surprised to hear that an app would actually disable Explorer (critical processes) as part of a setup. Not a gamer so I guess I learned something.

    It won't be. The bug is in the games not in Windows.
