i was recently running windows 7 64 bit on my computer and just decided to switch to 32 bit 7. however i still have 2 program files. when i try to delete program files (x86) it tells me i need trusted installer permission. anyone have any ideas how i can delete the other program files?

erm are you saying you're trying to downgrade from 64-bit to 32-bit by installing one version of windows over the other? Thats not adviseable and you should do a clean install after formatting.

Why do you want to change to 32-bit?

no no i did a clean install from windows 7 64 bit to windows 7 32 bit because i wanted to see if it used any less resources considering my computer orginaly ran a vista 32 bit operating system. after i did the clean install i still had a program files (x86) folder and a windows.old folder. i was able to delete the windows.old but the program files (x86) folder will not be deleted without trusted installer permission. i wanted to delete this folder because it had all of the programs that the computer had before the clean install.

    Try this commands:

Open command prompt with Admin Privilege and write:
    takeown /f "C:\Programs Files (x86)" /r /d n
    icacls "C:\Programs Files (x86)" /grant administrators:F /t

Then delete the folder Program files (x86)

I have same problem from Vista 64 to Vista 32. I'm too lazy to type in cmd so I've decided to copy commands from garf02 (above)

Did not work for lazy me because I still have to intervene and delete one "s" from garf02 commands: Program(s) Files (x86)

Just when u think it's going to be easy...

well be unlazy and get the job done? If your too lazy to do it properly, you cant expect us to do the work for you.

Whats your particular reason for going back to 32bit?

I was just trying to warn those who are not capable to recognize what is the problem with upper commands when they enter it and cmd report error.

The reason is that I have to work with Statistica 5 (software from Statsoft) to finish something for my PhD. It's 16bit application and runing on older OS, works in XP untill you want to draw graphs (it will not crash if you change wow32.dll, I fix that on one of my machines but that was bothering). Works fine on Vista 32. I don't have time to try make it run on Vista 64 (I've installed recently) or to buy and install newer version of Statistica and I need reliable software in this moment.

Second reason is, I have piece of hardware in device manager that was not recognized after I've installed all drivers from HP website for my notebook. I was thinking, maybe there is no 64bit drivers for that device. After I switch back to Vista 32 it's still there but like I sad, I don't have time to that now, and when I finish that for PhD I'll try Windows 7.

thanks for the post. It worked for me going from 64 bit to 32 bit using upgrade media.

I only have 2gb of ram, and iTunes has big problems for me on 64 bit so decided I had no use for a 64 bit os. 32 works just fine.

I was also having problems with Steam with L4D2 crashes in 64 bit which I dont appear to be having in 32 bit.

    Thanks for the help.
