Desktop icons rearrange themselves every other reboot

    Hello,

I tried to find a solution to this problem online, but couldn't find anything concrete.

Like I said in the subject, the desktop icons rearrange themselves every other reboot. Not every time, but occasionally and quite often, often enough to annoy me.

I have a 30" screen 2560x1600 and I keep a lot of icons on the desktop. I have to keep arranging them.

All settings are configured correctly. In Personalize>Desktop Icons - auto arrange icons is unchecked. The OS restarts correctly so I'm not sure what is causing this problem, but it's getting on my nerves.

Did anyone come across a similar problem?

Apparently this is an on-going issue. From a Microsoft Answers forum thread:

And from a Microsoft Technet forum thread:

Thanks for this. I've seen it before and all these solutions didn't fix the problem for me, but when I was looking at it today I found this: Save and Restore Desktop Icon Layout in Windows Vista - How-To Geek

I'll try it and will let you know if it helped.
