High disk activity when Windows not used

    Hi,
my Windows is doing something when I do not use it. The disk makes a lot of noise (r/w) but as soon as I touch the mouse or keyboard it stops.

What can be the reason ?

I have AVG as antivirus and no other residential software running (appart ATI and sound card softs)

    thanks

Heh, very likely AVG is doing it!

    Or the windows indexer...

But bring up the task manager, then "Performance" tab, then the Disk tab. On the "Disk Activity" window, click the "Read (B/Sec)" header item till the largest read values are at the top.

Then let the computer sit till the disk starts being accessed again and see if something jumps to the top :)

Keep the Resource Monitor > Disk tab open and see which processes are doing it.
