    No display on system startup


    I'ts been going on for a while now couldn't say exactly how long (1 year+?)... But for the most part when I turn my computer on nothing will be displayed (no signal either) and if it gets to the windows log in screen (can tell based on the sound) I can unplug the DVI attached to my 4890 and plug it back in It'll work, but before that it won't (sometimes it'll work better for a while and usually worse after BSODs). It also seems I can't control anything before the log in screen if there's no display. The biggest issue with that is I get a lot of BSODs (which always say a different unrelated driver is to blame never the same one) and if I get a BSOD I have to select how to start windows, but since I can't control/select anything before the log in screen I end up having to repeatedly turn on and off my comp until I get a display (usually 30 times or so). I'm not sure if the BSODs and my display issues are connected or not, but I was thinking it might be my PSU crapping out or possibly my motherboard... Any help appreciated!

    Hello,

    I had a similar issue (though not as severe) whilst using an ECS (Especially Crappy Stuff) motherboard (which had onboard VGA) and a graphics card. Once I installed the graphics card I couldn't see anything on the screen until the Windows logon prompt came up!

    To configure the card I first had to go into the BIOS with the card disconnected, setup the BIOS, as if a card was connected - shut down, install the card, then start up! Long story short not an ideal arrangement, but I have no doubt the motherboard was at fault.

    Have a look to see if you have an ECS motherboard, if you do take it out of your computer, throw it on the ground, get a hammer, smash the board, pour flammable liquid onto the board - set afire, etc!!!

    But really if you have a graphics card installed but your motherboard has VGA onboard I suggest taking out the card and seeing how the computer behaves. In all likelihood it is the motherboard, but there is a small chance that the graphics card is causing you some grief!

    Well my motherboard is MSI, but I do have onboard VGA so I'll have to try that


    [edit] I guess I lied, I thought I did but I guess not. just a male vga port, which I honestly don't know what that's even for =/

    [edit] Sorry just remembered my mobo is Asus, my laptop is MSI!
