Cannot Enable Store & Display Recently Opened ...

It used to work but now I am unable to check (enable) the two 'Privacy' boxes in the Start Menu Properties dialogue (see below). When I clik in the boxes the check mark does not appear. Help!

Hi Shawn -

Thank you much. Your advice worked. All is back to normal (for now). For the life of me I cannot understand how these weird things happen to me. I am ever so grateful you and this site exist.

You're most welcome Marcos. That's great news.

Since you are not sure what may have changed this setting, I would recommend to do a full scan of your system with Malwarebytes free just to be safe and help make sure that your system is clean.

OK Shawn, I took your advice and ran it. Nothing detected. I decided to also do a full scan with MS Security Essentials and there were some items detected. Thnx!

Oh btw, as I was navigating the Control Panel during all this I happened across the 'Action Center' and noticed that 'Windows Security Center Service' is turned off. I cliked on the 'Turn On Now' button and got a message that 'the Windows Security Center service cannot be started'. First, I don't know what this is. Could it be automatically disabled because I am using the Malwatebytes and MS Security Essentials? If not, do I have another problem? Other than these pesky little issues my system has been running fine (almost 24/7 since fall 2009). fwiw, my UAC is set at the highest setting.

thnx -Marcos

You might go ahead and create a new thread for that issue to get better help with it.

Windows Security Center service cannot be started would be a good title in General Discussion.
