What do you mean by "Car PC"? Unless it's running Windows 7, it will be running a dedicated system; in which case it would be better if you went to a forum more relevant to your car's make and model.

    Hi there

    a "CAR PC"

hope I'm not travelling on the CA Freeways the same time as you -- it's bad enough with drivers --even though in most countries highly illegal - who use mobile phones while driving -- even Non Hand Held -- but imagine if they were playing Solitaire or something on a PC on a busy freeway. !!!

    Cheers

If you're on a busy California freeway you won't be moving so play on!

I'm not the first person to do this .this has been going on for years .they have software to make it easier to use the computer in a mobile environment like centrafuse which all the button are big . An example is how cell phones have a car mode app and all the buttons are big. I pads and tablets are being used as HU as well .touch screens are a must and they even have remotes that act as a regular car stereo remote that are USB driven so I don't see what the difference is from using a carpc verses using a double din controlling your iPod or flash drive music. On difference is I'm running windows

That difference is kinda important. You never clarified, so for all we knew you were talking about Ford Sync or another smart infotainment system.

Cars have had computers for a very long time. They just never ran regular Windows.

Can't say that putting Windows into a car is a very common thing... Most people just buy a replacement audio deck that has bluetooth and a USB port.

It does sound interesting though... If I ever rebuild my old truck (1991 Mazda B2200), I might look into getting a Windows 8 system (providing it's not too much work).

I don't have a real carputer but with my lappy and my new Galaxy Notes hotspot I do work in the car but currently not while driving except for off the Note. This is a kind of scary trend as I love to drive but the need to keep up with emails and such has a very distracting effect. Maybe we all need to set the electronics down turn them off or better yet maybe new cars will be required to jam all un-authorized signals so we can just get back to driving.
