    Hello there.
You can have a look at this website here: Change PC Name through Batch Script - Tweaking The Visual
It will tell you what you will need to do for making the BAT file.

    Sincerely,
    Sparrow.

    Thanks for that.

Just before I try it out, will it definitely work in Win 7 64?
Its just because its tagged as "tweaks" and "xp", so want to be sure in case it changes anything its not supposed to.

    Thanks!

    Doesn't seem to work.

I run the bat file as Admin, then cmd prompt appears with "Please enter your desired PC name:"
I type name, press enter, cmd closes.
Restart the pc, go into control panel>system, and computer name is still the same...

Why you want to change the computer name using a batch file? Any particular reason? Batch files are mostly useful for applying to multiple systems.

To change for one system, the easiest way would be to go to Control Panel - System - Advanced System Settings - Computer Name tab - Click on Change button and rename the computer name to a new name click OK and reboot the system.

This is a pretty straight forward method.

So it shows the changed name in system properties?

Could you tell me what you did step by step?

If I use a third party info tool, it shows the new name, but sys properties and CMD ( hostname, ipconfig etc ) show old name.
