Problem w/ moving (downloaded) files off of desktop

Whenever I try to move downloaded files off my desktop (into another folder, for example) then try to open/run them again, I get the error message "User/(user name)/Desktop may have been changed/moved/deleted..." or something like that. For example, I downloaded Minecraft to my desktop the other day, then proceeded to move it into my personal folder, then tried to open it again, but it failed to open. (Not that I WANTED it off my desktop, I just used it for the sake of example.) If I delete said folder off the desktop, I get the error message when I open the personal folder. If I delete the desktop folder from my personal folder, I get the error message when I try to open/run the application. I've never had this desktop folder show up before or have had any problem moving or deleting files, until yesterday. Is there any way I can prevent the desktop folder from showing up in the personal folder, or at least prevent it from being a stubborn prick whenever I want to move something.

I mean, it's not like I need a folder to tell me whats right in front of my face anyway...

Once you move the file, where are you trying to open it from?

Well... I try opening/running it where ever I move it too (duh). Like I said in the Minecraft example, if I move it to, say my personal folder (by dragging the icon onto the folder) then trying to run Minecraft by clicking on it from the personal folder, I will get the error (not duh).

Seriously, does anybody know? This is a bit depressing.

Sorry to sound dumb, but what exactly are you moving, the installer or the link to the program after it's installed?

^^ Good question. Are you installing applications that load an icon onto your Desktop and you are then moving that icon into a separate folder or are you actually talking about just downloading files to your Desktop from the internet and then moving the file you just downloaded into another folder?

That would be the latter; downloading the file from the internet to the desktop then moving said file into another folder. I'm not installing anything, nor did I download an installer for anything.

Have you tried to get rid of the middle-man, the Desktop, via downloading directly to your personal folder? Would you still get the error message after accessing the downloaded file?

Also, where is the personal folder created/situated? Libraries? My Documents? C:\ Drive?

I think your reading the situation wrong... And that's partially my own fault. First, there is a downloads folder in the personal folder that saves every downloaded folder anyway, so there really isn't a need to move stuff into the personal folder. Second, the "moving Minecraft into the personal folder" example was exactly that. Again, since it already saves in the downloads folder, it's kind of pointless to move it into the personal folder, when it's essentially there anyway. Third, I think the personal folder is like the system folder, or something like that. It contains My Documents, Music, Pictures, Movies, Downloads, Games, etc. (all individual folders). I have it on my desktop. There's some option where you can show certain icons (My Computer, Recycle Bin, etc.) on your desktop, and the User/Personal folder is one of them.

To answer your question short, gigagiggles, it already shows up in the personal folder>downloads, so there's no point in moving it there. That was just an example to explain the bigger problem. If there WAS the case where I downloaded something to my desktop, and for whatever reason I wanted to move it somewhere else, that pesky desktop folder (again, located in the User/Personal folder) keeps me from opening it anywhere else. Basically, it creates a set path for the whatever-it-is I downloaded to the desktop. When I move it, the computer recognizes that it's not in the right place when I try to open it from another location, and gives me the error message. Although, once it is on the desktop, I can't change the path of it (or just don't know how). And this desktop folder only does this to things I have downloaded. Like my browser or antivirus, were both installed, but they don't show up in the desktop folder, despite the shortcut icons on the desktop. Long story short, I DON'T WANT THIS DESKTOP FOLDER SHOWING UP. Again, I've never had this problem before in the past. And I don't know how to get rid of it.
