Windows 7: Windows 7 won't start

Hi,

So I'm not sure if this is virus related or not. I've just built a new computer and have had a hard time installing Kaspersky. When I try to start the computer, a Startup Repair window pops up and is unable to fix the problems that windows 7 seems to have.

The message that pops up after this failure is: If you have recently attached a device to this computer, such as a camera or portable music player, remove it and restart your computer... yadayada contact your administrator yadayada...

I had a USB key plugged in that I removed and still got this message.

When I click into details, the problem signature is the following:

Finally, in the diagnosis window, d:\windows\system32\drivers\iastor.sys is corrupt.

I've considered simply re-installing windows7 since I basically have almost nothing on it now, but if I wipe my disk clean with a program like DBAN, will my license still work ( it's retail Windows 7 Home Premium license since I bought it off the microsoft website) ?

No, I actually downloaded the ISO version from the website and burned it on a dvd (also I burned it using Nero and found out the existence of the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool later on). Where can I get the Repair program ?

Ok, so I tried doing a system restore to right after the point where I installed all the drivers for the motherboard and vga card. The same problem happened.

So basically, what I'm planning to do now is to clean the hdd by using the DiskClean application by entering the Command Prompt at boot and to do a clean re-install of Windows 7. Does anybody have a better idea ( actually solving the problem.. ?!) because I'm not sure if this is even virus related or if this might happen again.

Run (Click the link ) Startup Repair using the installer DVD you have burnt (follow the instructions given there) .

Run it three separate times , with restarts after every single run, and report back.

When I use the StartupRepair tool with restarts after every run, I don' t get any errors ( the tool doesn't find any). With the StartupRepair tool that starts after I boot the pc from the hdd, I get the error message listed in the first post.

How do I do get a screenshot on a usb key or something when I can't get the computer to boot Windows ?

Mark the 100 mb system reserved partition active using either method 2 or method 3 of Partition - Mark as Active , and then try repairing startup again.

Do two more things. Run SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot , and reinstall the necessary drivers provided in your intel motherboard's CD.
