Monitor wont shut down

hi
i am using windows 7 2-3 month, firs i used 7 RC bulid 7100 which was ok, and than i install 7600 which also works fine. both are x64.
now and than i am having problem with my monitor. in power option i set up that he turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity, and after 10 minuts its turned off, but 2 sec later hi is turned on! practicly it turn off for 2 secound only.
i try evrything, new drivers, check running programs, check start up programs, but nothing

any ideas?

try to remember what you just installed or a new driver.
nothing else... try RESTORE back before this problem occured.
 
already tryed... program by program and evrything was normal, eaven after restart, problems started from next day :s
totaly confusing... I hope that wont be problem in final version... :(

Did you try to go back in time to an earlier configuration before this problem started by using "system restore"? That may undo some hidden system alteration that is causing the problem.

The same problem on this notebook (MSI GX701). Tried many versions of windows 7, but all of them has this problem. I note one thing: when windows 7 is clean (installed drivers only by windows) all works perfectly, but when I installed nvidia driver (GF9600m GT for windows 7), problem is appeared. Tried to install alternative drivers and driver special for this notebook (from official site)… No changes.

Help please! Sorry for my English :o

I have the same problem. I used Vista, everything worked, and now I've upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate, and I have the same problem. Any solution?

I get the same thing with my PC, running Windows 7 Ultimate x64; it doesn't happen very often, and I'm using my computer most of the time so it doesn't bug me.... But perhaps it's something with the power management setup in Win7. I'd say all we can do is wait for MS to find the cause and release a hotfix to resolve the issue...

When it turns itself back on, is it by any chance running the screen saver?

Many moons ago, there was a problem with some crappy screensavers not checking monitor status before starting and if the "monitor off" timer was less than the "start screensaver" timer, the montor would actually turn back on to run the screensaver.

This is only an experiment... but have you tried setting the screensaver to 9 minutes with the monitor at 10?

Ok, never mind... The point was not whether you had a screensaver installed or not... it was the setting of the timers. The timers still run, even if there is no screensaver.

If the screensaver is turned off the timer is disabled, so the count down can't be changed.

As I mentioned before, this seems to be an issue with Windows itself. If you do a bit of searching, you'll find numerous people asking the same question around the world.. Quite a few people have also asked on the MS TechNet forums, and in each post that I have seen a moderator has requested that the information be passed onto the software development team.

Have patience good people, it'll be resolved at some point before we die. ;) But if it isn't, I highly doubt it'll cause any of you sleepless nights because your monitor doesn't go into standby automatically... :p

You got the point. For example I simply reconfigured what to happen when I close the notebook (do nothing, and it automatically switches off the screen).

Actually no... it's simply ignored.

Screensaver "off" means no screensaver name is listed in the Control Panel's SCRNSAVE.EXE key... So what happens when the timer gets signalled is there's no screensaver to load.

Ok, essentially different ways of saying the same thing. I was referring to the timeout setting where the user selects the screen saver, the average user wouldn't ever go into the registry to edit settings.

The timeout setting in the registry (found in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop" if anybody's curious) wouldn't be 'deleted' or 'cleared' when disabling the screensaver; but as you just said, it's ignored so it won't make any difference. That's why I say that the count down timer relating to a screensaver wouldn't affect this particular issue.
