    Desktop Icons

I noticed this last night when I was re-arranging my desktop icons.
If you try to place one down close to the task bar it will not stick it jumps up about 25 pixels. But if you place an icon right above were you want it, it will stay down close to the task bar.

Has any one else had that problem?

Do you have "align icons to grid" in the view context menu for the desktop.
I get the snapping effect when this is on but is disappears when the snap is off.

Yeah I see what you're getting - this should stop if you turn the snap setting OFF. On my system when I switch off the snap I can place icons so that they actually appear partly off screen (not that there's any use for that feature:) )
Another thing you could try is to go into the advanced display properties (the settings for non Aero and adjust the icon spacing - although stated only to be for basic schemes I think it still adjusts aero icons

I considered turning the snap feature off... then I remembered My placement is horrible. It would look a mini WW2 happened on my screen lol.

I think its somewhat related to the same thing that causes there to be about a 8 pixel gap between the task bar and a screen on full view when using it on small icons and across the top of the screen.

It must have a paranoia of things being around it

If you want it to be a little less paranoid, rhe only real option is to play wiyj the spacing. To get to it select rhe basic theme and you'll find the options in the change color option - you can set horizontal and vertical spacing independently - it still worked in early betas but not sure of the RTM

Your desktop icon spacing need to be adjusted.

    Something like:

    Rt Click Desktop
    Personalize
    Window Color
    Advanced Settings
    Icon Spacing Vertical

Not all settings here will have an effect with Aero. Some will.

It is not necessary to disable Aero or to set the Basic theme.
