How do i view my hidden pics in windows 7

hi all, hope someone can help, i recently broke my old laptop and had files on the harddrive which i really wanted so i bought a sata to usb drive and used that to retrieve most of my files and copy them on to my new laptop.

I am having problems with some pictures which i had hidden in my old laptop (windows vista) and cant seem to get access to them on my new laptop (windows 7), all i see is a shaded out box.

I have tried unhidding it using properties but still no joy. I guess it is something to do with permissions which i have tried playing with and still cant access it can anyone shead some light on this.

    Thanks.

You might need to take ownership of the files/folders you've copied back over to your new system before you can access them.

You need to take ownership of that drive before you can copy the files over.

Still can't do anything is a very vague statement. What, specifically, are you trying to do and how, specifically, are you doing it? You say you're trying to just get access to some files (how? what does "get access" mean in this case) and also you're trying to copy files to no avail (how are you trying to copy them and what errors are you getting?). We need more specific information on the exact steps you're taking and errors you're getting in order to figure this out.

ok when i try and open a pic i get error 'windows photo viewer can't open this picture because you don't have the correct permissions' and when i try and copy the folder with the pics to my laptop i get error 'you'll need to provide administrator permissions to copy this file'.

All i want to is be able to access my pics

And, you have taken ownership of the whole drive by right clicking on the drive in My computer and following the steps above to do so? What happened when you attempted to take ownership?

Well, needless to say, that shouldn't be happening if you have successfully taken ownership of the whole drive. Are there any issues like this with files on your local drive?
