Formatting laptop, but have display problems

Wasn't sure exactly where to post this so if this is the wrong section, please move it for me :)

    Now to the problem.
My a couple of weeks ago my laptops display broke. It started flickering and then it went off. It works every now and then and kind of lasts for about 2-3 mins flickering before it goes off again. So since then i've been using my tv as a display for the laptop by using a hdmi cable. I used that Win+P to put it to projector only mode.

Now i want to format the laptop and reinstall windows 7 on this. My question is, when i'm formatting/reinstalling windows, will it display on the tv?

Hello and welcome to the forums guilhipe!

Try leaving the laptop plugged into the TV using the HDMI cable and boot up this System Repair disc you can create by following the tutorial below:-

    System Repair Disc - Create

If you successfully see the options display on your TV when booting up from the disc, then yes, your TV will display the formatting/reinstalling process...

I tried it (followed the usb one, didn't have a DVD nearby :P) and it worked. Backing up my stuff right now so i can format it. Thanks a lot :)

Btw, i was thinking of getting windows 8. I saw the Release Preview for download in the Windows 8 forum. I wont have any problems with it right?

Ermm... sure, but the RTM is going to come out soon, so you'd have to do another clean install with that version when it comes out, which could be a hassle...

Besides, It's still the release preview and may have issues and bugs of its own.. I recommend you settle in your new Windows 7 installation first before considering Windows 8

Glad to know your TV works for the setup!

Hmm i see. Guess I'll wait for the RTM version then. I think i have a netbook around here somewhere, if i can find it, i might install Win8 RP on it just to test it out
