    Hardware

I am unable to run any programs on my laptop. When I turn on my computer, it asks if I want to run it normally or in one of the safe modes. I click normally. It will start up fine, however whenever I click on a program, there is a spinning blue circle near my cursor. It stays there for minutes and nothing happens. I can't do anything on my computer. Help please :)

    highmrk,
Welcome to sf. Please tell use as much about your system as you can. Make, model, anti-virus, malware. When was the last time that the system was normal? What were you doing when it began to have issues. Depending on the antivirus I would let the system open in safe mode with networking download the latest antivirus update and run it several times to see if it pulls something up or quarantines it to start with though we need some basics as above.

It is a Dell laptop, i3, with microsoft security essentials. I began to have problems yesterday. It was running perfectly fine 2 days ago. But when I tried to use it in the morning yesterday, I couldn't run any programs.

The first thing to try is System Restore to a date before the problem started.

Type system restore in the search box. If you don't see any restore points before the problem started, click the box in the lower left corner Show more restore points.

That's great, I stepped away for a long drive and glad to hear that the restore point worked. That was going to be the next thing I was going to suggest but always a good idea to run your AV in safe mode and see if you can find something. Again welcome and see you around !
