Another option is to try WUBI. Saves the hassle of dual booting as its installed on your windows partition but gives you the option to boot into either - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide/

I've been dual booting Windows and Ubuntu for years. There are a few things to take into consideration, but it's not that hard.

My approach is to tell the Ubuntu installer to put its boot loader (called "grub2") on the Ubuntu partition instead of the MBR. Then I use the free and excellent EasyBCD to set up the Windows bootmanager to have an entry for Ubuntu.

The reason I do it this way instead of just installing grub to the MBR is because Windows needs to "own" the MBR in order to be able to hibernate. But if you don't use hibernate, there's no reason not to let grub install in the MBR - it will generate a boot menu entry for Windows.
