Seems I linked the wrong video. There was formerly one which stressed using small amount of paste but it seems to have disappeared or wasn't Acer.
I don't bookmark these because there are too many videos for too many brands. But almost every operation you can do now has an Youtube vid searchable via Google.
But you got other good advice to use the paste sparingly.
Sorry.

it's all good....I took a little from this and a little from that...without your initial words about thermal paste who knows what might have happened...+ the link to core temp...no need to be sorry...u were a great help as always
Good news here, too. Compaq laptop waiting at my friend's in Boston which was shutting down due to overheating took 8 hours to disassemble (twice) to repaste the processor, but I'm typing this on it now.
There are some very flimsy plastic clamps the size and heft of a fingernail clipping that fold down to hold the keyboard and touchpad ribbons in place. The one for the touchpad separated from the mobo so that the ribbon cannot be clamped down onto the connectors. Anyone know how to replace this as it appears to be integrated in mobo and the clamp won't reattach. Until then we're using a mouse.
It was a learning experience. I learned I'll never do another one.
