Cannot shut down computer; folder will not delete

I downloaded and installed RJ TextEd to enable me to write scripts in a programming language named Davinci. Since I started using it, I have had the following problems on my ASUS laptop:

• I cannot shut down or restart the computer; I click on the Start menu > Shut Down and nothing happens
• cntrl/alt/del does not do anything
• The blue Fn keys do nothing

I have uninstalled RJ TextEd, and deleted it everywhere except for the folder in which the setup file used to be. When I try to delete it from Windows Explorer, I get this message:
"This action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program."

I have ended the processes, from Task Manager in the Control Panel, that this application was running.

I have tried all four methods on this page: In Windows 7 getting error "the action can't be completed - Microsoft Answers
When I tried Method 4, after hiding and disabling all the items in the Services tab, I tried to reboot, and got a message saying, "System Configuration cannot reboot the computer."

There was no RJ TextEd file or folder in the Temp folder.

I downloaded Unlocker, tried to run its installer or executable (ARO2012) and nothing happened.

The problem seems to be that this RJ TextEd folder is open somewhere in my computer. Is this the problem that's preventing me from shutting down the computer? What can I do to fix this? Thanks!

Welcome to the Seven Forums!

Uninstall Unlocker (if you have not already done so). It is a nice tool to have. You need to 64bit version... but I would not try and install Unlocker while you computer is in this state. If you do opt to install Unlocker at a later date, see near the bottom of this post for some info.

1) Can you delete the folder in the safe mode?

Have you forced a shutdown via the power button?
(I'm just asking. I'm not suggesting that you do that.)

Try a forced "soft" shutdown (which is a bit kinder than forcing the computer off via the power button). Go to the Start Menu's search field and type in shutdown /f. That might get you a light box telling you that things need to close. If need be, click on the Force Close button.

Then restart into the safe mode and try to get rid of the folder that way.


2) You could try this version of a clean boot:

3) You could also run a tool that is normally used in getting rid of infections:
RKill Download
(Give it time to work)

That should end most (all?) non-essential things - then try to manually delete the folder.

I couldn't get into Safe Mode because the System Configuration couldn't shut the computer down.

I closed the monitor, then reopened it and pressed the power button since the screen was black. It opened right up to Windows without prompting for my password.

It worked!! I hit enter after typing in shutdown /f, and it shut down, then I rebooted and simply deleted the RJ TextEd folder. The computer runs as well as it ever has now; maybe due to deleting all those Temp files. Thank you!
