    Dear gregrocker,

If let's say I pick "Microsoft system restore" or "System Recovery", will this fix my problem and save all the important files that I need?

One more thing, is it normal that when perform the HP checkdisk there's only 9% done on stage 1 and going back to the option page for checkdisk(Windows, recovery and dos)? When I do it for the second time it's only 2% done for 1 stage, then it return back to the checkdisk option page. Should I do the checkdisk until I get 100 percent complete on stage 3?

"Microsoft system restore" put your files as it ways in the past. But only dll, exe, registry etc. All personal documents will stay the same. System Restore

"system recovery" puts your disk in a state as it was when you bought it! All is gone. Not what you want.

Both options are not what you want!

Hello Kaktussoft. Thanks for your help.

Since I don't have any cd/dvd drive and my USB stick only 256MB which I still can't create the Windows Defender Offline on the stick although I have reformat it, is there any good option to fix this issue?

What were the results of the hardware diagnostics? Was the HD detected?

If so then you can continue working through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start
which lead up to if necessary rescuiing your files and running HP Factory Recovery (as already shown in post #19) or doing the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to get rid of the problem as well as the huge load of bloatware which HP's lard into their PC's.

It keep stuck at 1 stage with 9% process of checkdisk, then it come back to the option menu(windows, recovery, dos), so I pick checkdisk for windows again; 2%, then 5% and hang on 8%. I don't think this is normal.

I'm waiting for my sister response at this moment. Want to borrow her usb stick.

Hey guys, can someone tell me what is the newest price for USB-USB direct link bridge cable at this moment? Can I use this cable from the problem notebook to my vista or xp desktop?

Is there any USB-USB cable that I can use for this process? Can someone recommend one please.

Then try the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan to determine with certainty the condition of the HD. Disk Check checks the file system, while the HD Diagnostics scan checks the physical condition of the HD.

Do you have an external HD to copy out the data using one of the methods in Step 9 of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start? I would do that first.

Hi gregrocker. I really appreciate your help man. Since the checkdisk hanging all the time, I'm planning to buy a USB-USB cross cable(male to male) to save the important data from the issue machine to my desktop. The thing is I don't know where to buy this cable. Is this cable still available somewhere on the NET? USB-USB direct link bridge cable is too expensive for a student like me. Then if I manage to transfer my important data to the desktop using this USB-USB cable(peer to peer), I will use the HP system recovery to puts the disk in a state as it was when I bought it! Is this a good solutions? What say you?
