Hello !

I had wondows 7 ultimate running on my internet machine for 2 weeks. Almosi every day 3 or 4 times a day i would get a completely blank dislplay and then the machine would shut down. There were no critical errors that i could find.

So i installed Ubuntu 12.04 on the same machine with no changes at all. Ubuntu 12.04 is very resource intensive. After 48 hours of running not one crash , blank screen, or any other major problem.

I had the same windows 7 problem on my self built and the dell gx280 i had it installed on. Same problem completely different machines.

I do not think i will be going back to windows , as the experience stated above explains windows 7 is still in need of a lot of development work. When i ran win95 second edition was the last time i have experiences with windows like i have had with windows 7.

Good luck with all you folks that can get it running properly.

Sorry to hear about your problems with Windows 7. Millions of computers are using this OS without incident. The fact you can run Ubuntu without incident would seem to rule out any hardware problems. So from my perspective, it sounds more like the Windows 7installation got borked rather than some built-in problem with Windows 7. Perhaps there was a power glitch during the install, or the install media itself was dirty or scratched resulting in damaged or corrupt system files. You could check these files by running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are noted run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

Or you could try a repair install.

Or as a last resort use a different Ultimate install disk to rule out a bad install media. But until you try these steps I think it's very premature to say Windows 7 has development issues. IMHO. :)

The dell machine had its own install dvd and the dual p4 machine had its own also.

So there were 2 seperate install dvds and the same problem on both machines with completely different video , audio , cpus , ram , hard drives , motherboards , etc.

After this experince i decided that windows 7 was not very usefull to me. Wanted to make sure others knew about these problems. Oh yea there was the problem of wndows 7 having all kinds of fits about the samsung printer softwear i was using. This same printer installs and runs perfectly under ubuntu 12.04 . Go figure.

And there are millions of users using ubuntu also !

It actually sounds like a corrupt/improper/lack of driver issue rather than the OS itself. Installing the OS is only half the process. You've still got to install the proper drivers to run your hardware. If you don't, you can easily have issues like this. I think you're misattributing your problems here.
