    more on error 1719

ok Karl I ran it and have pasted it to this reply. I would like my original HD C: to be my main boot up disk and E: as my back up. Is that what you were talking about how I would like my system to be? I think so.DiskInfo.txt

    Mike,
Any reason why your c: and your E: are compressed?

I should have maybe posed my question differently.

Do you want your operating system to be on your bigger drive or on your smaller drive?

You have two physical drives. Forgetting for just a second the Drive Letters, what would you like to have on the larger drive?

    error 1719

Sorry Karl I misunderstood you, I would like to have my os on my larger drive but had boot up issues when I placed it in the primary boot position in my case. It gave me a corrupt windows file error and would not boot up at all. I had to switch back to the smaller drive as primary. I originally upgraded to windows 7 from vista on the smaller drive. I started having problems when the larger drive started to run most of the windows functions. This all happened when I copied all the windows files to the larger disk. I just want to get past this windows installer error issue. I know the path that win installer is using is from E: or the larger one. Like i said it all started when I copied everything to the new larger HD. No I had no idea that my c: and e: are compressed. Is that bad? I really appreciate you taking so much time helping me with this.

    All is good.

First, let's rename C to K as an example.

    Remove your usb drive.

    Run Diskmgmt.msc (disk management)

Rt-click on the space for your present C drive.

Choose Change Drive letters and path

    Change
    button

In the drop-down box where you presently see C, click on the down arrow

Choose the desired new drive letter.

    OK button

    Close out Disk Management.

    Reboot your computer.
    =======================================
that's one part of the journey.

Now go thru the same routine but change your E to C.
    Reboot

Let me know when you get that far.

We need to remove compression from your new C and also your old C.

ok Karl, I've tried to change the letter drive on C several times but each time it reverts back to C not the needed K as you requested I do. the only part of the instructions I didn't understand was the part about "Removing your USB drive" do you mean in the boot up system Bios F12? what USB drive do you mean? Maybe that's what's holding the change but I wanted to ask you before I just changed the bios settings.

    Mike,
    OK.

The "Removing your USB drive' came from one of the files you sent. Perhaps when you ran the command/script you had a USB plugged in.

Don't worry about it. Just make sure that while doing all of this that there is no usb stick plugged in.

What I want to do now is to simply disconnect one of the drives, BUT... before proceeding, would you please send me a fresh snapshot of the Disk Managment display?

I like to be safe rather than sorry.

    Thanks,
    karl

The USB you were seeing was my spring broadband card being used. The only other usb ports being used are the ones to my mouse, keyboard, and printer.error 1719 The windows installer service could not be accessed.......-error-1719-mgt-file.png I think this is what you were asking for correct? One question what will happen when I change the letter drive from C to K when I reboot, the only reason i'm asking is because when I attempted to change it awhile ago it gave me a warning that if i changed the letter drive i might have problems with a system reboot.

!. Make a System Repair Disc.
that name is misleading but here's the procedure to make one:

    CREATE A SYSTEM REPAIR DISC

START | type System Repair | Enter key | Create Disc button

    ============================================

    Turn off power.
Physically disconnect all cables that go to your 300 GB disk.

    Turn power on.

Let me know when you have completed this step.

    Of course, remove the CD/DVD
