    Previous Microsoft Installations

When doing a "Disc Clean Up" in Windows 7 Home Premium, there is a box which sugests you can delete previous Microsoft Installations. What exactly does this mean please, does it include all those old updates that have been installed on my machine over the months or do they have to stay put?

I don't want to tick the box and find myself up a creek without a paddle...

    Cheers,

    Hello Ron,

That option is to delete the folders below that were saved into your new installation for when you did either a upgrade install, custom install without formating, or a repair install (inplace upgrade). These are just copies of your previous installation, or files that did not carry over to the new installation. They are safe to delete with Disk Cleanup if you don't want anything in them. :)
    • C:\Windows.old folder
    • C:\$INPLACE.~TR folder
    • C:\WINDOWS.~Q folder
    Windows.old Folder - Delete

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
