Hi, I thought I would update this thread.
It turns out that after trying all the suggestions, the hard drive was faulty and had to be replaced.
Fortunately I managed to save the data.

Yep agree Rich maybe I have just struck some bad ones. The first an A200 I recently flipped a Sandisk into and it hasn't missed a beat and I think it is or was the Toshiba brand drives perhaps.
Mind you I have dome several fixes on them and each one has had HDD problems cured of course by a new HDD non Toshiba.
Remember you can use the Win7 license which came with the Toshiba to reinstall on the SSD's. No need to waste another license.
Yeah Greg that last one Microsoft were very obliging cos the OS disk I had the mobo it was on died and they let me put it on that one.:)
