    Stop Programs Making Compatibility Files?

I use a program for 3D mapping, however it is a little old and is incompatible with Windows 7 Aero for various reasons.

When I compile a map the program automatically runs an engine to test for lighting and brush glitches. The engine starts, then locates the map from a path program files (x86)/[program]/main/maps. Because the program is running in compatibility mode due to its issue with Aero, all the files it produces when it compiles are stored within a hidden folder for compatibility files, the only way I can access these files is via a little tab at the top of the explorer window. Because the files aren't physically in the maps folder the engine can't locate them to load. No matter what folder I chose to save the files to, they are always hidden and only found under the compatibility tab.

Is there a way I can stop the files being created and saved in the compatibility mode? (i.e. saved like any other normal file?

I'll bring this back up to the present because I have the same question. I'm trying to save an excel file and it won't save anywhere except the compatibility files are of the folder. So how does one turn this off?
