com surrogate error related to wlan autoconfig

This just started happening a short while ago. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit, on an HP Pavillion dv7 notebook operating with an Intel Core i5 processor and 6 megs of ram. The only things I have added to the computer in the last three are updates from Microsoft.

Using msconfig I have found that the only time I get these errors is when wlan autoconfig is enabled.

I have implemented most of the fixes I have seen on these forums to no avail.

* the how-to-geek fix does not work because I get an error message that says I cannot manipulate 64 bit executables.

* I reinstalled the Intel drivers with no effect.

I am open to trying other things. Please help.
