DELL Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7
Purchased Aug 2009
I know there is spyware virus, when my wife logged on to pay bills some very suspicious pop-ups appeared asking for ss #, etc.
The real problems began when I tried to load Avast. Now when I turn it on it goes to a blue screen with the white bird and green olive branch. There is nothing to click on. I tried pressing F8 while turning on and I get to the black screen where I can choose safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc..It doesn't matter what I choose, it always ends up at the same blue screen with the bird.
I can't even see the system info to see if it's 32 or 64 bit. I know I need this to see which Windows Restore disk to create. I'm thinking it's 64 but not 100% sure.
When it's been sitting awhile, a dialog box comes open. I took a pic of it:

Press F8 at power on (POST) and you should get the options for the Dell recovery partition (PC Restore) and that will allow you to restore the PC to the original factory condition (assuming the recovery partition is not corrupted or has been deleted).

If you can't restore with the Dell recovery partition, you will have to reinstall with a Win 7 disc (and drivers). If this is the case, you can download Windows 7 and create an iso DVD, the same version that you have (probably 64), and use the Dell supplied Win 7 Product Key (tag is usually in the battery compartment) to install. You can access needed driver downloads (and you need at least the Dell supplied sound driver, if not more) from www.support.dell.com using your service tag number.

Windows 7 download

If you want Dell discs, you can request a set of discs (Windows 7 and the Dell drivers and utilities disc) from Dell HERE You will need to be the registered with Dell owner and have the service tag number.

So after a little more reading on here I realize I cannot create a system repair disk for a 32 bit system (which is what my dell laptop is) using my dell desktop pc (which is 64 bit).
So is there a way using the internet to create a 32 bit disk?

Friends, Please allow me to update the problem on my Dell Inspiron 1545. It has Windows 7 Home Premium. (I am updated this post on a different computer)
When booting the computer, it goes to a blue screen with the white bird and tree branch with green leaves. It just stays there. I bought a Windows 7 repair disk on eBay for $10. It doesn't help.
Question: How can I tell if the laptop in question is 32 bit or 64 bit, if I can't get it to boot properly so I can get into system information?
The repair disk I bought is for 32 bit. I just don't know for sure if its 32 or 64.

This is what it's doing: When I try to boot the laptop (with the repair disk inserted) I press f12 and choose to boot from cd drive. It then starts to load windows system info, etc. then it runs a repair utility and it just runs and runs and runs, I let it run for 10 hours and then I finally shut it down. I figured it was stuck or simply not working.

What should I do next?

Hello there!

Why don't you try this one http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139576-startup-repair-infinite-loop-recovery.html

If that didn't work then I'm afraid you may need to run a Repair. Since it Laptop check the COA sticker it may say that.

Hi thomis,

Welcome,

In order to resolve the issue at the earliest, I would request you to kindly follow the steps mentioned below:

Run a startup repair

1.Restart the system and on the Dell Logo tap the F8 key.
2.The advance boot options screen would come up.
3.Press the <Down Arrow> until Repair Your Computer is highlighted, and press <Enter>.
In the System Recovery Options window log in as a local user and click Startup Repair.
4.Restart the computer when it’s done.
5.Kindly check if the system runs fine.

In case the issue persist after the above steps, kindly run a test on the system hardware. The steps are:

1. Shut down the system.
2. While holding the Fn key, press the power button and restart the system.
3. System will enter the diagnostic mode.
4. Kindly, allow the tests to run.
5. Note down any errors coming up.
6. After the above tests are over the system shall boot into the utility partition. The Dell Diagnostics screen appears.
7. The test will auto initialize and you will get a blue window with four options.
1. Express, 2. Extended 3. Custom. 4. Symptom Tree.
8. Select Custom test.
9. Select hard drive and click on Run Test to run the test on the hard drive.
10. The test will run on the system hard drive.

Please revert back with the test results. This will determine the root cause of the issue and we will take care that the correct issue is addressed and resolved as soon as possible.

Glad to Help.

Hi, thanks for looking. In the link you provided, I noticed about halfway down through the instructions something about 0 MB.
The following is what pops up when Windows tries to do startup repair:

error.jpg

please help, i'm losing hope on this laptop. I downloaded windows defender offline to a flash drive. inserted it into the laptop and started it. I hit f12 to boot from usb. a screen with windows defender popped up and it tried for about 3 minutes then said it couldn't be loaded, something about a driver not installed correctly. but that usb device has always worked in the computer.
i'm now downloading win 7 service pack 1 to do a reinstall. I'm to the point I don't care if i lose data, I need to be able to get on the internet.
