Windows won't load and system repair disc won't run

I have put the d drive at the top of the list in the boot set up, but the system repair disc doesn't show up and I just get a blank screen. When I open safe mode, some windows files load up and the safe mode screen opens but not with a way to start up windows. Safe mode with networking or command prompt doesn't work either. Is it more than likely the hard drive?

Put DVD/CD on top of BOOT (boot device order) in BIOS. If you do that and start from DVD it gives you a blank screen? With or without cursor? Is cursor blinking?
If you remove the DVD (still same bot order) and restart computer it boots from harddisk?

So safe mode boots... sort of. What is the last message you see? Does it crash or freeze at the end?

I have put the cd drive at the top of the boot list. When I start the computer with the system repair disc in the cd drive it loads up a bunch of windows files and then I end up at a blank screen with a cursor that is not blinking. The system repair disc does not open.

Safe mode screen opens and stays open but there is no way to access anything. It just says safe mode in the four corners of the screen.

When booting in "safe mode" you see a lot of drivers on your screen scrolling. Last one is classpnp.sys ad far as I know(?) Then you have to wait and you can logon (maybe automatic in your case). Then you see your desktop and a help screen explanining this is safe mode. If you close that window you see your desktop with very big icons. In all corners is text "safe mode". Is that what happens?

    If so... safe mode works!

No, I never see my desktop and a help screen or big icons. That is the problem. I just get a screen with safe mode in the corners.

Do you have a mouse pointer and does mousepointer move? Press WINFLAG+E or CTRL+ESC or CTRL+ALT+DEL
    Does work?
