How do we resume automatic login to Windows 7

My aged father has just rung me with a prob - he cannot log into his computer. He says he has never had to before and claims he has never set up a user name or password for Windows 7. On start up he was always automatically taken to his desktop. Now though, the sunflower icon and password box appears on startup - where user name should be it just says 'user'. What can he do?

Try just clicking on the logo. Sounds like he might have just logged off before and not shutdown!

..and might I also suggest that you setup TeamViewer on his computer and yours. Then you can remotely control his computer, see what he is seeing and help him out each time he calls

Hello Jeap, and welcome to Seven Forums.

In addition, the tutorial below may be able to help get him to be able to log in automatically again.

If he has no password, then leave the password fields blank while doing the tutorial below. If that doesn't work for him, then create/change password for his account, then enter the passoword in the fields while doing the tutorial below.

    Log On Automatically at Startup

    Hope this helps, :)

Many thanks for your replies and help. It transpires that my dad had been been changing his Live Mail password and that 'somehow' it also became the password for Windows login. I don't know how he managed that, but he is now a happy man again!
