These two links are worth looking at, especially all the comments, and how there is quite some conflict over the 'freezing' method for last chance recovery.

It is news to me that there is actual contact between the heads and the platters but what do I know! Is this true?
Just found this which seems to confirm what I thought but wiil consider other evidence - worth a look too.
