Internet desktop shortcuts being opened by FrontPage

Somewhere along the line my file associations got messed up and now my desktop shortcuts going to different sites are all opening in front page.

I have checked the "Associate a file type" program and have disassociated everything with FrontPage except the items that are showing are FrontPage and him still having the same problem.

My next step if I get no joy here is to uninstall FrontPage and see if that takes care of the problem.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hello Wolfe,

You could right click on the internet shortcut, click on "Open with", Choose default Program, check the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file box, and select say Internet Explorer to open it with instead. :)

Open With - Change Default Program

    Hope this helps,

Right clicking does not have an "Open with" on that shortcut. I also tried shift right-click but no joy.

In that case, you could download and merge the listed URL option in the tutorial below. It will restore the default associations of internet shortcuts (.url files) to be opened by Internet Explorer.

Many times when file association fails to function properly, malware is the culprit. Have you tried scanning with MBAM or any of the other anti-malware programs?

    Main problem solved, but.....

I did scan for malware and all is well on that side. I was able to get my shortcut back to Internet explorer by making Internet Explorer my default browser. So for whatever reason, that is taken care of.

However, I did disassociate some extensions with FrontPage trying to see if that would take care of the problem. Is there a way to get back to all my default extension programs?

That's great news thewolfe. Setting IE as your default browser would have also set .url files (internet shortcuts) to be opened with IE by default as well. :)
