a disk error has occured. . . press ctrl+alt+del to restart

ok i've had this problem for awhile now and im not sure how to fix and it came from other problems heres what happend my pc was going a bit slow and i got a message telling my to restart to finish the install on a game i had bought awhile back (3-5 years ago) and i have installed it multipule times before. so i went and restarted it and i had a problem it was one i had before which was a min or so after the desktop started it would freeze and stop responding. at that point i came here looking for answers one i got was to uninstall my video driver and i did. i realized that it had not fixed the problem worse because i had a low resolution and i had tried to restart a few times. now the last time i tryed i was going to try something someone else had told me to do (i dont remember what it was but i wasnt able to even try it because the desktop would freeze too fast) and i restarted it and got the error message now i have no idea what to do. . .

Mate, you came to the right place.

Start windows in safe mode: Safe Mode

try to uninstall the game. also, type MSCONFIG into the start menu search bar, and click the program at the top. Click the option that says Diagnostic startup. Remember to go back and select Normal Startup when problem is solved

Restart, and do a full scan with your antivirus program. Make sure it is updated first. Also, please let me know which Antivirus program you are using.

You might consider a Restore to a point before this mess, but if you are infected with malware, a restore point may also be infected, even one that points to a time before you were infected: System Restore - created by Brink

Make sure you are virus-free before restoring. If you find malware, do not restore. Consider using Malwarebytes in addition to your antivirus as an extra free scan: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - CNET Download.com

You don't need a disk for a clean install, so long as you have a license. You can have an upgrade license, but be sure you have a previous OS license that you are no longer using (ie the one that you are upgrading from).

A clean install is easy, and I can tell you how, but I was trying to help you get into your current install.

Try a startup repair: Startup Repair - created by Brink
Try this handy tutorial which can help either fix the problem, or show you how you can save files on your computer: Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot - created by gregrocker

Did you have a retail, OEM, or Upgrade license?
