I leave my desktop on 24/7 and just reboot every once in a while. I do turn it off when I go out of town and when there is a really bad thunderstorm going on. Laptop lifespan will be shortened if left on continuously.
1. If your not having a cooling problem running check disk over night should not be a problem.
2. Turning off you monitor will not effect the check disk.
3. When using a computer in a normal fashion (non server) I know of no good reason to leave it on other than the few seconds you save in booting.
thanks for the answers guys, im a bit scared that my pc might cause a fire but i dont have a cooling issue and my pc usually stay nice and cool and very quite
Mine runs 24/7, apart from a reboot now and then, and my monitor gets turned of when I go to bed. Before this rebuild my last pc ran 24/7 for almost a total of 4 years, and never had a hardware prob, always the idiot in front of screen.
As mentioned, its fine.
I normally just leave mine on 24/7 with weekly reboots.
But lately, I have been shutting down at night, but leave it on all day.
It will not hurt either way you choose to do it.
Go Green and get a SSD so you can boot in under 30 seconds and close down in the same or less. Then you'll save money, heat, energy and time. I find that since adding an SSD I'm much more inclined to turn my rigs off when away for any extended period of time....but that's just me. Keep in mind if you leave a system with good cooling properties on it will need routine cleaning MUCH more often. Like mandatory 3-6 months depending on environment maybe more often.
