Windows Explorer

I've been trying to avoid posting a new thread, but all my searching has turned up nothing...
Basically, Windows Explorer will stop responding randomly. Sometimes I'll be listening to music and suddenly the music would stop and then Explorer would stop responding. But it doesn't crash so it doesn't recover forcing me to reboot my computer. It does this when I'm browsing the internet, playing games, watching movies, etc, etc. The only thing I have noticed is that the freezes happen more often when I'm watching a video in VLC, but they still occur if I'm not.
I've tried repairing and reinstalling Windows 7, and I'm completely out of ideas. From what I could find through Google searches, many people are having issues with Explorer, but none of my symptoms seemed to align completely with theirs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I'm running build 7100.

In the event manager, I see the errors left over from when I had to force the computer to reboot, but I don't see anything important before that error... just a DNS warning a few minutes prior.

As far as drivers go, I took a look through the Device Manager and Windows claims all drivers are up to date, but I'll take a look at the manufacturer's websites just to be safe.

are you overclocking at all?

have you had any other operating systems on your pc - and if so, were they okay?

have you tried taking both halves of your ram out temporarily in turn to see if that works?

maybe you're overstraining your power supply with four harddrives, quadcore and 4 ram sticks?

try taking a side of your case off to see if it's a overheating problem.

Thanks for filling in your system specs. it makes this so much easier. Could you go into event viewer (type event viewer in search) and go to the windows logss>applications tab. look for any errors (red sign on them) and see if any of them related to memory or IE. If they do use the snipping tool (type snip in search) to take a screen shot of it and upload it for us. Let us know if you need help with that

Do the various windows stop responding like one by one, then fuinally the mouse cursor stops working? THen finally finally does the HD light come on and stay on?

If you have a motherboard with an intel chipset, go to intels site and download and install the latest "Matrix storage drivers". This is a known issue that should be fixed with thiose drivers. Although since you are on 7100 it may not be guaranteed.

If you don't have an intel chipset (nVidia or something) /maybe/ they have some updated W7 storage drivers...

I've been using my PC fine all day, and so far no crashes.
