User Profile Service won't start
I've been trying to fix my wife's computer for a few days now. It all started with what seemed like a corrupted Windows update package, which resulted in Windows freezing at a blank screen before properly loading. I tried various FixIts from Microsoft and some even told me that the problem was windows update components that were broken and "fixed" them, but it still resulted in the blank screen after a couple restarts. After exhausting all of the options that I found, I tried a repair install with a Windows 7 SP1 install disk that I created from an iso.
I let the repair do its thing while I went and watched some shows with my wife, but when I came back it was in Windows with a plain back background and very few items on the desktop. In the bottom right corner it says "This copy of Windows is not genuine". I can't get into the control panel, windows explorer, or most other programs. It gives an Explorer.exe error that says "The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and password" whenever I try to open most things, with an extra string of code when I try to get into the control panel. "::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}
I've been following various advice from others on these forums and other places on the internet to try to get the computer working and without success. The one thing that I can do is access the command prompt and I've become fairly adept at accessing things through it. I tried to create another user profile through the command prompt, but when I got into it, it had the same exact problems as the main one, except I couldn't even access the command prompt anymore in that profile. I tried the built-in administrator account and it had the same issue. I also tried going into regedit and looking at the profile list to set the state and RefCount to 0, which I did for the State (it was at 4), but RefCount didn't even exist. I tried to add it in and then set that to 0, but that also had no effect.
So now I don't really know where to go. I don't want to make things worse than they already are, and I also don't want to do a clean install if I can help it, since I was foolish enough to not back things up before I did the repair install. Any suggestions?
