All icons in my computer and Start Menu have disappeared

    hello...
some days ago i installed the ms office 13 consumer preview. for some time, it worked well but after 2-3 days... all the icons in windows had changed to one. I uninstalled office but it still didn't work. i searched in the forum and followed this tutorial - Icon Cache - Rebuild

now all the icons in my computer have disappeared and the start menu is also not working.

Hello Nishadsinghi, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If these are all shortcuts that are missing their icons, then you might see if downloading and merging the .reg file for the listed lnk (LNK) option in the tutorial below may be able to help restore them. It will restore the default associations for LNK files (shortcuts).

Default File Type Associations - Restore

    Hope this helps, :)

Just as an off chance they may be hidden, download and run UnHide: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/unhide.exe

Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker now. It will revert your system files back to windows default, and will get it rid of the Mac customization.

Let us know if the icons back now or not.

If the other posts above do not help, then you could also try doing a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to hopefully undo and fix this.

Try it : SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

But as your start menu is also not working, I would suggest you to perform a Repair Install .
