Desktop icons won't stay put - help!!!

I have never ending problems with Win 7 - Problem: I like to spread out my desktop icons - NOT align to grid! Procedure: right click desktop/view/uncheck align to grid/blablabla - well I do it and then it rechecks after refresh immediately by itself and moves icons back to grid which i dont want. I ve tried different things - nothing works so far. Also I: right click desktop/personalize/ease of use/change admin settings/CHECK: apply all setting to logon desktop - hit ok etc - The check mark DOES NOT STAY PUT. Anyone know why? and is this possibly the solution to the ICON desktop grid issue? I am administrator, owner and CEO of my laptop and im frustrated! thank you for any suggestions!

Do you have Auto Arrange checked? If so, uncheck it.

oh yeh no prob- i m from the north coast too but live in LA - btw this so wierd - its gotta be a corrupted file somewhere lol - i ve tried these registry fixers and OS repair stuff in safe mode doesnt do anything - did nt work - probably only a clean OS i guess but i hate doing that - I know its gotta be something simple like findfing a needle in a haystack i almost give up - butI i actually got it to work in another user account desktop profile i created! but not on my Admin main account! its so bogus - it has something to do with the user profile thing which is confusing at the least in Win 7 - thanks at least for suggestions - which i ve already tried unfortunatly - ok onward to the next Win 7 glitch

sfc /scannow

Have you tried sfc?

You may need to open the "Command Prompt" and execute:
sfc /scannow

Desktop icons won't stay in place
This is not a new problem, but I haven't seen a solution. I have a toshiba laptop running W7 hp x64 whose desktop icons will not stay where I place them. It also doesn't remember icon size. I have tried: toggling settings such as align to grid, auto-arrange toggling desktop icons off and on...

Desktop icons won't stay where I put them.
I'm posting this here in Security because of the issues I've had over the past few days. I thought I had taken care of everything using MBAM, Spybot S&D, TDSSKiller, and SFC, but something is still amiss: my desktop icons won't "stick" where I put them, and it's never done this before in the ~20+...

Item icons stay on desktop even after being deleted or moved.
I have an Acer Aspire as well as an HP Compaq Presario (both running Windows 7). Both have had this problem, though the HP only happens every now and then. Now, on the Acer when I save an image/file/folder/etc to the desktop and then decide to delete it, the content is deleted but the icon stays. I...

Desktop Icons Won't Stay Customized
When I place an icon on the desktop, they show only with a generic Explorer folder. When I look in the icon's properties, the logo of the program or website shows as selected, but I have to choose an icon from the system instead, for the desktop icon to change its display. In Vista, icons placed on...
