There will be more programs to uninstall, however, of highest priority is:
    UNINSTALL

    Script:
DAEMON Tools Lite    DT Soft Ltd    4/11/2012        4.45.4.0314
    µTorrent        5
    /18/2012        3.1.3
    REBOOT

    REMOVAL OF P2P PROGRAMS

There are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

As long as you are using any form of P2P networking to download files, you can anticipate malware infestations.

I strongly recommend that you uninstall:
    µTorrent
    BitTorrent
    Vuze

Go to SkyDrive.com which is microsoft's cloud offering which is far superior to your pogo thing and is continually being expanded and developed. SkyDrive is the cloud solution that I use and I'm very satisfied. The earlier versions were primitive. Current version is quite good.

    Karl,

I'm in the process of doing the things that you have suggested here. However I do not want to uninstall gSyncit. This is a program that I use to keep my Outlook in sync with my Google calendar and contacts for my Android devices. It will be a complete pain in my butt to live without that program. However, if you know it is known to cause problems, then I can uninstall it and go back to the company to try to get things resolved. (I paid for the application.)

On tue uTorrent side, I don't download programs with it I just use it for getting the latest stuff for my MAME (Arcade emulator) setup that runs on a different PC. But it's not critical and I'll uninstall it for the sake of trying to resolve this. (Just wanted you to know that I am not performing extremely "unsafe computing" with uTorrent by trying to download warez or cracks or etc.)

    SailingNut,
go ahead and leave your gSyncIt for the time-being. There are free programs to accomplish the same, but I'll research further.

Since I was never a fan of Outllook's calender program, I've used google's calender exclusively.

I don't care how safe the originating site is, peer-to-peer is not a secure way to go. After your system is in order, reinstall anything. I just need a safe, sound, and secure system while we are running down your problem.

OK all done with that stuff.

FYI I have not experienced the problem since I uninstalled McAfee. Not sure that is the solution though, sometimes it would be stable for days and other times it would crash multiple times a day.

Holding my breath that it stays that way!

Thinking a several week "soak test" is in order before calling it fixed. If that passes I will one by one add back things I want to have back.

The thing that pisses me off is that I have a subscription for McAfee! Had it for free through an offer for a over a year and it worked well enough so I bought in. My bad!

OK, SInce I last posted I had a failure in my RAID array so I have done a clean install of Win7 on an SSD.

The shut down problem has returned, however I have not been present to see if the exception dialog shows before the shutdown. However, I expect that it did because upon restarting Windows it did not say that it was not shut down properly.

Currently I have only the base OS, MS Office, MS Security Essentials, PC Meter, and Daemon Tools installed. I am uninstalling Daemon Tools to see if that is the problem. This brings up a question, does anyone know of a good (stable) program to mount ISO images as if they were burned to a disc? I want to be able to avoid having to burn discs to install things that I have in an ISO image.

Get rid of PC Meter, Daemon tools.

You do not need these and Daemon has been known to cause problems.

    Install CCleaner:
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

    list of STARTUP PROGRAMS

    CCleaner | Tools
icon | Startup button | Windows tab |
click on Save to text file button (bottom right side) |
accept Startup.txt as file name | SAVE button

    list of SCHEDULED TASKS

    CCleaner | Tools
icon | Startup button | Scheduled Tasks tab |
click on Save to text file button (bottom right side) |
enter Scheduled Tasks as File name | Save button

    List of INSTALLED PROGRAMS

    CCleaner | Tools
    icon | Uninstall button |
click on Save to text file button (bottom right side) |
accept install.txt as File name | Save button

UPLOAD, as an attachment, the startup.txt file
UPLOAD, as an attachment, the Scheduled Tasks.txt file
UPLOAD, as an attachment, the install.txt file.

I had already ditched Daemon tools bafore posting. I have since ditched PC Meter.

Forgot that I had reinstalled gSyncit, hanging on to it for now.

    Requested files attached.

    TIA for looking at it!
