    PBK file association problem

    Hello.

After activating my windows 7 professional 64 bit, pbk files (vpn) are not recognized. Then I found a reg file on the Internet to fix and after running that not only problem not fixed but lnk (shortcut files) association changed to adobe reader. Then I unassociated lnk files using a tool and shortcuts are fixed. But now when I try to associate .pbk also .lnk is associated to the same program. Also I am trying to associate to rasphone.exe but it is not the same as default association. I think default was rasdlg.dll but it is dll file and cannot associate.

Please help me as soon as possible!

Hello mandriva, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you can download and merge the .reg files for the listed pbk and lnk (LNK) options in the tutorial below to restore their default associations to hopefully fix this. :)

Default File Type Associations - Restore

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Hi.
Downloaded and merged the reg file and restarted but not fixed. My user account is an Administrator account. I had already merged two other reg files found on other forums but they also couldn't fix!
    Please help!
    Thanks.

You might also consider doing a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to undo and hopefully fix it.

    Hi.
Last available point is for 14th and is just an Install type point.

Not sure why they still do not have default associations for you. Those .reg files should have restores them for you after merging them and restarting the computer.

As a test, create a new administrator account, and see how your shortcuts and pbk files work while logged on to it.

    Hi.
Created a new administrator account and logged in with it. Association problem were there. Then ran the Default_PBK.reg and wonderfully it just fixed it. Then when I returned to main account it had fixed there too. Could please explain that stuck? I cannot understand the behavior.

    That's great news.

It sounds like the original account is either not an administrator or lost it's administrator rights somehow. Are you having any other issues with administrator rights while logged into the original account?

    Hi.
The account type is Administrator and it is member of Administrators group. There is no issue right now. The only thing that when run a program needs administrator privilege like regedit, it asks before running which is normal I think.

Yep, that's normal to be prompted by UAC first like that. Could have just been a fluke. If you have any other issues, please feel free to post back with them.
