Windows 8...my 2/- worth
I've been using Windows since the mid-1990s, and lave used most versions.
Was a Vista beta-tester (loved it, but accepted that it had major issues).
Beta-teated Win 7 and was totally blown-away. HERE was the OS I'd been
dreaming of for the last 20 years.
The RC went on the day it was released, and ran till I got a retail copy of
Ultimate. THAT was installed in early 2010, and hasn't been touched since.
Its kept clean, and suffers a regular system-image backup.
Earlier this year, I installed the Win8 CP on the AS5735, and once I'd tweaked
Win8 a bit, both the AS5735 and I loved it. The AS8951 ran the 64-bit version
under some sufferance, so remains on Win7HP 64-bit.
NOW comes the fun......I tried to install the 32-bit RP on the AS5735, and it
JACKED UP!!!!! Not compatible. Some BS about the CPU. 'Um, but it runs the
CP....'.
So the AS5735 is back on the old, original Win7 Ultimate setup (just LOVE
those system-images), been using Win8 and Win7HP for so long, I forgot
what a smoker a well-sorted 7 Ultimate setup is.....
Win8.....nice, and with some very worthwhile improvements...
BUTT...
Metro aside, I don't like the reduced functionality, and absolutely LOATHE
the push to the 'cloud'. I point-blank refuse to use the cloud or pay-per-use
software. I believe in pay-once-own-forever software.
I'll BUY Windows 8....I just can't see myself USING it. Not yet, anyway.
