    what does compress this drive to save disk space


    in windows 7 when i right click/properties a local disk there is a check box that said compress this drive to save disk space what does it do
    what is the advantage and disadvantage of enabling that

    You might get a small amount of extra space, like really small amount at the cost of somewhat slowing down your browsing, opening, and just about the general windows experience. More resources will need to be used, and some programs cannot run in a compressed state. IT should only be used if you have low amount of hard drive space, and have already performed a disk cleanup disk and deleted unused files and such. I really would not do it:)

    In addition, you do not want to compress your boot drive. Doing so will render Windows unbootable with the error below.

    i know disk cleanups like that, but my disk in c is 9gb the free is about 10-20mb, i tried the mini tool partition i got surface error so i cannot move some free space to c:
    i got lot of free space at D:
