Windows 7: PC screen constantly shutting off

Hi All

My PC's display just went off while I was surfing the net...first I thought it was the screen, so I plugged in another screen, windows booted and same happened after a few minutes after startup...screen just goes off...Now to my knowledge it can be 2 things:

1. graphics card
2. RAM. Notes: I do not get any beep errors...



I would like to know, what are the best software available for testing RAM issues? Also, I am using AMI BIOS(american megatrends v7.4, 2009), how do I do the startup memory diagnostics? I know there is a shortcut for it...

Any other advice?

Also, I'm typing on the PC now that is giving me issues, don't know how long until display goes again...

thank you very much, this is a good answer..I think overheating might be the cause, since only one fan on my Display card works(it has 2)...but temp is stable at 43degrees Celsius and I don't play games

If you don't play games, do you have a real "need" for a card with active cooling? I'm thinking you may only need a "basic" business type card that is passively cooled (and they are inexpensive).

Thank you for your answer and interest GEWB, appreciate. I did not say that I don't use other graphic intensive programs such as photoshop, rich internet applications and flash based programs...I use my GPU for that to take some of the CPU load...
