    Registry Cleanup?

I was wondering what registry cleanup or registry defrag utility people suggest. My main issue is leftover registry entries, and ghost files, left after an uninstall.

    Any suggestions?

None are recommended. Left over junk in the registry really does not cause problems.

If you feel a real need to clean the registry then CCleaner is probably the safest bet.

Wise Registry Cleaner - Best Free Registry Cleaner - speedup slow PC in one minute

It only fixes "safe to remove" registry entries and leaves "unsafe" ones for the user to decide, unlike other registry cleaners. Been using this for 1 year now with no side effects on XP, Vista and 7 =)

Never run registry cleaners! I have never had ANY speed or stability improvements and they cause more problems than they (don't) fix.

Ccleaner is probably the safest along with using a reg backup after cleaning.
I personally use advanced system care 5 pro. I know many people here do not approve of it, but i have found no issues with it so far and it has lots of different functions.
Although A reg cleaner is not necessary at all.

I suggest you don't need to worry about this with W7.

If you insist. From the other forum members postings CCcleaner is the best.

So if i really, absolutely, had to break down and use one that would be my only choice.

So take it from a non beleiver if you have to use one CCcleaner.

Please be careful learn to use it first.
Ask some of the regular users here if you need help.
Make your back up images just in case.

Try Revo Uninstaller, after removing a program it allows for removal of registry entries. It's pretty easy to use and it has a freeware download.

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Well, I already use CCleaner. The problem is that after I uninstalled some programs they left files on the hdd and registry entries. Now I have never had a problem with the registry and never messed with it which is why I am asking the first place.

But what about leftover files on the hdd, under the program files folder?

For the files and folders in Program files : If the program is uninstalled and you don't care about settings if you ever want to reinstall then by all means delete them:P although i doubt it will clear much room
