Mine dont show up, but even if they did, so what? .. It doesnt interfere with the performance of my system, so Im not going to spend a lot of time worrying about it...
If i tick a option that says hide empty drives in a computer folder within windows i expect it to do just that, not half the time for it to not show up (correct) and sometimes half of the drives randomly show up (incorrect).

Mine have always showed up, card inserted or not.

Some of my USB "mount points" are off the mobo, some are via multi-interface card connected to the mobo's IEEE1394 connector. ALL on the 1394 side show in explorer as "devices with removable storage" whether anything is in them or not. Those off the mobo do not, unless a USB device is connected.

Not sure I see the OP's issue here ??

I assume that he wants things working as they should. Fair enough. That's how they were designed, that's how they should function.
And if, like me, he can never remember which slot is the one with the card in, it's probably annoying him that they show up when empty. It may even start to annoy me a little, now that I realise they shouldn't.

Oh and BTW, some of these posts seem a bit tetchy. Almost to the point of put downs.
This is a forum. If you don't like the questions, don't bother with them. If you do want to answer, it needs to be in the spririt of support, not trying to demonstrate superiority.
