Two Installed Harddrives in Safely Remove Hardware list

    Greetings.

I would appreciate some understanding or insight on this question of mine.

My two installed harddrives of which I have also partioned namely a Western Digital and Seagate appear in the Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media list.

I notice that the same does not appear to be the case on my laptop why would it then be the case on my desktop and is there a way that I could remove them from the list as my preference would be just to have my USB flash drive or SD Card appear and not my actual harddrives.

    With many thanks
    Dave
PS: My apologies as soon as I had posted this thread I received a list of similar threads which have been helpful, I really don't know why I did not find it earlier, thank you so much.

    Hi Ztruker.

Yes thank you how appropriate. The resolution for me lay in my Bios setting. Disabling SATA Ports Hot Plug Capability on my Intel Board is what sorted it for me.

Info from previous posts pointed me in the right direction of where to begin to look.

Thank you so much for such a an informatative and accurate website and forums.

    Dave.

Thanks for the response. I'd not heard of that before so I looked it up:
Serial ATA supports hot-plugging (also known as "hot-swapping"). This is the ability to swap out a failed hard drive without having to power down the system or reboot. This capability contributes to both data availability and serviceability without any associated downtime.
It's a good day when I learn something new.

I have seen hot swapping HDDs in server class machines. You have not mentioned your computer is server or an ordinary desktop?

It is first time hearing hot swapping HDD on a desktop motherboard.

    Greetings All.

Thank you for the interest, I had taken this for granted. My motherboard model no is a Intel DH67BL and as far as I know it is one of the entry level desktop boards.

    Trust this helps.

    Kind regards
    Dave

I have Hot Swapping on my desktop.

Mine also show up in "Safely Remove Hardware list" but it has never bothered me so left them that way, maybe next time im in the BIOS I'll change it.
