Can anything be done about the Internet getting so Cluttered

The last few years I have really noticed that searching the Internet is like trying to find a needle in a Haystack! Example; I can search (Best digital camera, get involved in the artical just to find out that I'm reading a 4 year old post that of course means nothing today) There are so many obsolite posts like the one I just mentioned, not to mention all the Spam we have to filter through just to find a simple answer to a simple question. Does anyone ever clean & Delete the Old & Useless information? If not in 10 years or less, the Internet might be almost useless & it might be easier just to go to your local Library for answers.

An interesting topic, one i wonder about as well.

there are a lot of sites with links to malware hidden in them as well that should just be removed, and as you say obsolete information is abundant.

what i do these days is find sites that are reliable and just stick to those i rarely use google or bing to actually search now as most sites have built in search functions, i go to microsofts site for support for their products or here, i go to toms hardware or overclockers for IT related topics and like wise for news i just pop to the bbc or the guardian for example.

as a rule i type a web address rather than search to avoid malware from dodgy sites in case i get lazy and click the wrong site in a search.

gratefully this sites answers are usually near the top of a search for windows 7 issues.

But yes i think it's a problem now in 10 years...i dread to think how bad it will be.

True but sometimes I like to get an unbiest opinion from individules, 5-10 years that worked pretty good but not today. Maybe google, yahoo etc need to get together & start deleting some blogs. I notice that they all seem to share the same info & give the same Blogs to searches, but that might be touchy & would it get, I'll pay you to remove that political post or Spam companies fighting to remove there competers Spams? The Internet is the information highway & I never would have thought 20 years ago the there would be anything like it. It's nice to see info from people all around the world, political & everything else.

Have you tried using Google Advanced Search?
You can do a lot of filtering with this.
I use it when i am looking for specific threads, topics, sites, etc.
    Google Advanced Search

I use Firefox and have the WOT (Web Of Trust) addon, and find that helpful for "warning" of questionable/malicious sites.

Also, for questionable or known malicious sites:
Malwarebytes PRO (paid) has a real-time website blocking feature.
Avast (free) also has a website blocking feature.

    Try this.

I searched Google for Mickey Mouse Reviews. Silly topic but results are what I was after. The listings are back to 1972.
mickey mouse review - Google Search

Added the year 2012 in the search bar at the end. Search showed Mickey Mouse Reviews 2012.

I didn't have to retype MM Reviews in the search bar I just added 2012 and up pops the newest 2012 dated material.

Just type the year you wish.

As David pointed out Advance Search is an option also.

    Works backward also.
Want a hardware review and all that shows is 2012 and you can't find the ones from last year? Add 2011 on the end of the search query.

Yup, you can refine searches the way you say - i agree.

I just find it easier to start with the correct syntax for a "complicated" search using the Advanced Search Page to start with.
From there, i may refine my search like you pointed out, or go back to Advanced and add/change criteria.

To me, it's just a learning curve and personal preference, ...
